Elisabeth Subrin: Three Films

Brooklyn-based filmmaker and artist Elisabeth Subrin explores female identity and representation in narrative, documentary, experimental, and gallery-based work. Subrin will introduce and discuss this selection of short films, which includes her latest Maria Schneider, 1983, which recently received the Cesar Award (the French Oscar) for Best Short Documentary.

A restaging of a confrontational interview with the iconic French actress best-known as the female lead in Bernardo Bertolucci’s controversial Last Tango in Paris (1972). Casting contemporary actresses Manal Issa, Aïssa Maïga, and Isabel Sandoval as Schneider, Subrin recontextualizes her statements about the sexist film industry to illustrate how little has changed, even post #MeToo.
